The 1870 Federal Census for Martinsville, Henry Co., Va. page 109A taken in August 1870 records Eleanah and Francis (21) Bird with new born daughter Mary E. (1/12).

The 1880 Federal Census for Martinsville, Henry Co., Va. District 131 page 115A taken in June 1880 records Elkanah D. (33) and Martha F. (34) Bird with children Mary E. (10), Delie A. (8), Henry L. (5), and Elkanah M. (3). Next door is the John H. Martha J. Draper family whose yet to be born daughter, Lillie Bell Draper (b 1881), will marry the boy listed in the above census record, Elkanah M. Bird (b 1877).

The 1900 Federal Census for Reed Creek, Henry Co., Va., District 55, page 151B records Elkanah D. (Mar. 1848) and Martha F. (Aug 1848) Byrd (indexed as Henry D. Byra at ancestry.com) with children Mary E. (Nov. 1869), Marshall E. (June 1877), Sarah F. (July 1880), Lucie E. (May 1883), Lillian M. (Jan 1888). Also in the household are grand daughters, Mollie S. Draper (Oct 1892) and Annie E. Draper (Oct 1895). Next door is Elkanah's brother, Hugh Byrd, and family, as well as his father, the widower Louis D. Byrd (Nov 1810) living with a daughter Lucie A. Byrd (Nov 1838 - single).
