Abigail Hagen

A copy of a page from the Hagen Family Bible in the possession of John Wesley Hagen (of Parkesburg, Chester Co., PA April 2008) records the birth of Abigail Hagen as March 27, 1819.


The 1850 Federal Census for Sadsbury Township, Lancaster Co., PA, page 4B records Henry Andrews (30 - PA) with his wife Abigail (30 - PA) and children John A. (4) and Mary (2). Henry is a Store Keeper.

The 1860 Federal Census for Martic Township, Lancaster Co., Pa. page 510A records Henry Andrews (40 - PA) with his wife Abigail (39 - PA) and children Anna M. (8), Lenah (7), and Henrietta (5). Henry is a Merchant with real estate valued at $1,400 and a personal estate valued at $2,000. One page over in the census record is the Davis Hagen family ... see notes on Davis Hagen. Also in the household of Henry and Abigail is Sophia B. Maybury (sic) (24 - PA / Teacher of Common Schools). Sophia is the sister of Sarah Ann Mayberry Hagen, wife of Elijah Hagen. Nearby on page 508A is James E. Crawford, soon to be husband of Sophia B. Mayberry.

The 1870 Federal Census for Drumore Township, Lancaster Co., PA, Greene P. O., page 246A records Henry Andrews (50 - PA) with his wife Abigail (49 - PA) and children Anna M. (18), Lena (16), and Henrietta (13). Henry is a Dry Goods Merchant with a personal estate valued at $2,000.

The 1880 Federal Census for Lancaster, Lancaster Co., PA, District 147, page 20B records Henry Andrews (61 - PA/PA/PA) with his wife Abbicle (sic) (60 - PA/PA/PA) living at 227 Chestnut Street. Henry is a Retail Grocer.

The 1900 Federal Census for Lancaster, Ward 6, Lancaster Co., PA, District 58, pages 118A & B records the widower Henry Andrews (Sept 1818 - PA) with his unmarried daughters Anna M. Andrews (Sept 1850), Lena Andrews (Oct 1853), and Henrietta Andrews (May 1855) living at 223 North Shippen Street. Lena is a shirt maker and Henrietta is a Milliner.

The 1910 Federal Census for Lancaster, Ward 2, Lancaster Co., PA, District 63, pages 67B records the unmarried sisters Anna M. (59), Lena (56), and Henrietta (54) Andrews living at 138 North Lime Street. Anna is a Coat Maker at a Coat Factory, Lena is a Milliner at a Department Store, and Henrietta has no emplolyment.

The 1920 Federal Census for Lancaster, Ward 2, Lancaster Co., PA, District 52, pages 24A records the unmarried sisters Anna M. (69), Lena (66), and Henrietta (64) Andrews renting a home at 138 North Lime Street. Anna has no emplolyment, Lena is a Machine Operator at an Umbrella Factory, and Henrietta is a Milliner at a Store.

By 1930 Lena and Henrietta have died and Anna has moved into an "old folks home" in Warwick Township: see general notes on Anna Andrews.
