  General Notes:

The 1860 Federal Census for East Side Nottoway River, Southampton Co., Va. records Orris (35) and Martha (27) Moore with children H. C. (9), A. E. (6), J. T. (3), and G. W. (9/12).

The 1870 and 1880 Federal Census records the Orris and Martha Moore family living in Jerusalem, Southampton Co., VA. The 1880 census had Orris indexed as Gustave. The image appears clearly as Orris.

The 1870 Federal Census for Jerusalem Township, Southampton Co., VA, Jerusalem P. O., page 268B, dated July 20, 1870 records Orris (46 - VA) and Martha S. (43 - VA) Moore with children Annie E. (16), Jas T. (14), Geo W. (10), William E. (8), Claudius (6), and Horace A. (3). Orris is a farmer with real estate valued at $450 and a personal estate valued at $350.

The 1880 Federal Census for Jerusalem District, Southampton Co., VA, District 104, page 268B, dated June 14, 1880 records Orris (53 - VA/VA/VA) and Martha (51 - VA/VA/VA) Moore with children William (18), Claud (16), Horace (13), and Charles (10).

The 1900 Federal Census for Jerusalem District, Southampton Co., VA, District 62, page 174B, dated June 12, 1900 records the widower Orris Moore (March 1825 - VA/Maryland.VA) living with his son George W. Moore and family: George (Oct 1861 - VA/VA/VA) and his wife Tomana J. (March 1867 - VA/VA/VA) and children Mande V. (July 1889), Arther C. (Sept 1892), Letha J. (Oct 1895), and Clara E. (June 1898). George and Tomana have been amrried for 12 years and have had 4 children all of whom are still living. This is a farming family.
