Marcella (Marcelon) Holland 61
- Born: 19 Nov 1845, Nansemond Co, VA
- Marriage: Jason P. Holland circa 1864 in Nansemond Co, VA
- Died: 17 Oct 1926, Holy Neck, Nansemond Co, VA at age 80
General Notes:
Emily C. Daughtrey wrote of Marcella's marriage to Jason Holland and their daughter, Emmeline, who married a Dr. J. E. Rawls. The 1920 census provides some documentation for this: The 1920 Federal Census for Suffolk (Independent City), Ward 3, Virginia, District 220, page 256A dated June 10, 1920 records Dr. Japheth E. Rawles (45) with his wife Emma (37) and children Anne (10), Mary (8), Japheth E. Jr. (5), Emiline (3 8/12), and Charles (2 1/12) living at 605 Broad Street. Also in the household is the widow Marcella A. Holland (73). Marcella is listed as a "boarder" and is possibly Emma's mother; however, additional research below documents that Jason and Marcella had no children. Perhaps Emily Daughtrey knew of this "Japheth and Emma Rawles" and thought that Marcella A. Holland, living with the family, was Emma's mother ... see general notes for Dr. Japheth E. Rawls Sr. for biographical sketch that describes both Japheth Rawls and Emma Holland's parents and grand parents ... Japheth's parents are Luther Rawls and Mary Elizabeth Darden who were married on May 30, 1867 at Holy Neck, Virginia ... Emma's parents are Charles E. Holland and Sue Jones. Although my great aunt Emily C. Daughtrey was in error as to Emmiline's parentage, I will leave Emmeline Copeland Holland as a daughter of Jason and Marcella out of respect to her memory.
