The 1850 Federal Census for Nansemond Co., VA, page 170A, dated Sept 18, 1850 records James H. Holland (22 - Nansemond Co., VA) living with Joseph (35 - Nansemond Co., VA) and Nancy (45 - Nansemond Co., VA) Jones and family.

The 1860 Federal Census for Nansemond Co., VA, Suffolk P. O., page 586, dated July 13, 1860 records James H. Holland (23) living with his brother Etheldred Holland (30).

The 1870 Federal Census for Holy Neck Township, Nansemond Co., VA, Suffolk P. O., page 254A, dated Auigust 11, 1870 records James H. Holland (43) with his wife Matilda J. Holland (26) and children Mary V. (6), Martha L. (2), and George W. (1/12 - May).

The 1880 Federal Census for Holy Neck, Nansemond Co., VA, District 54, page 83B, dated June 10, 1880 records Jas H. Holland (50) with his wife, Mollie E. (30) and children Jennie E. (16), Deleware (14), Louiza (12), Wallace (10), Lari (4), and Anna (6/12 - Sept). [Even though the individual is named Ann and labeled a female, it appears that this is might actually be James Causey Holland in that many researchers have him born in 1877 (including his WWI Draft Registration; however, James' death records indicates he was born in 1879 and perhaps he was actually born in 1880.]

James married Matilda Jane Jones on 15 Nov 1860 in Gates Co., NC. (Matilda Jane Jones was born about 1844 in Nansemond Co, VA and died on 7 Aug 1870 in Nansemond Co., VA.)

James next married Mary "Mollie" Euriah Gardner on 9 Jan 1873 in Nansemond Co., VA. (Mary "Mollie" Euriah Gardner was born circa 1850 in Nansemond Co., VA and died circa 1932 in Nansemond Co., VA.)
