Baney, 97 of Carlisle, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998 in Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle. Born Feb. 17, 1901 in Newberry Township, he was the son of the late Frederick W. and Mary Susan Bare Baney. He was the widow of Mabel Shover Baney. Mr. Baney retired from Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue and also retired as a U.S. postal carrier and was retired as a self-employed paper hanger and painter. His memberships included Mechanicsburg Lions Club as a member and on the board of directors; Mechanicsburg Club; Mechanicsburg Business Mens League; Washington Fire Company; president of Northside Playground Association and Republican committeeman 3rd Ward, Mechanicsburg. He is survived by two sons, Keith L. Baney of Mechanicsburg and Robert E. Baney of West Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; one daughter, Lucile Vogelsong of Dillsburg; one sister, Louella Dahlmeyer of Dover; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Myers Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Beverly Lange officiating. Burial will be in Rolling Green Memorial Park. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. in the Myers Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to his church, 132 East Main St., Mechanicsburg, PA 17055.

Also in the household are Edna's daughter, Mabel I. Shover (18) and another boarder David H. McCall (64). Samuel reports having been married for 6 years and employed as a House Painter. The 1920 Federal Census for Borough of Mount Wolf, York Co., Pennsylvania, District 74 records Samuel H. Baney (18) living with his parents Fred W. (41) and Mary S. (40) Baney and siblings Margaret F. (16), Mary E. (15), Pauline E. (11), Frederick J. (9), and Luella G. (5) Baney living on Second Street. Fred is a weaver at the wire shop while Sam, Margaret, and Mary are a winders at the wire shop. Pauline is a carrier on a paper route.
The 1910 Federal Census for East Manchester Township, York Co., Pennsylvania, District 74 records Samuel H. Baney (9) living with his parents Frederick W. (32) and Susan M. (31) Baney and siblings Sarah E. (12), Margaret E. (8), Mary E. (6), Ester P. (4), and James F. (0/12). Fred and Mary Susan have been married for 14 years and have had 7 children all of whom are still living. Fred is a weaver at the wire factory. Next door is Samuel K. Bare (69) with his wife Mary A. Bare (61) and grand daughter Florence M. Baney (12). Samuel and Mary have been married for 33 years however, this is the 2nd marriage for Samuel and 1st for Mary. The 1900 Federal Census for Newberry Township, York Co., Pennsylvania, District 149 records Frederick (Jan 1878) and Susie (Sept 1879) Baney with children Florence (Sept 1897) and Sarah (March 1899). Thus it appears that Susie is the daughter of Samuel Bare listed above in the 1910 census. Note: The 1880 Federal Census for Mt. Wolf/Manchester Township, York Co., PA, District 9 records Samuel (40) and Mary (30) Bear with children Gertrude (7), Harry (6), Sarah (2), and Susan (1). Samuel is a stone mason.
Samuel married Edna Mae Kile (Keil), daughter of John William Kile (Keil) and Katherine Margaret (Katie) Halter, circa 1923. (Edna Mae Kile (Keil) was born on 6 Dec 1904 in Mechanicsburg, PA, died on 24 Aug 2001 in Thompsontown, Juniata, PA. and was buried in Newport Cemetery, Newport, Perry County, Pennsylvania.)
