The WWI Draft Registration Card for August Christian Schindler records his date of birth as October 15, 1897. He is living at 4798 Yew Street in Pittsburgh and his next of kin is his mother Lizette Schindler of the same address. His physical description is short with medium build and blue eyes and brown hair.

The 1930 Federal Census for Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., PA District 205, page 84B records on April 3, 1930 August (33), Gladys (26), and Maxine (1 5/12) Schindler living at 7229 Kedron Street in the home of Lisette Schindler (61), widowed mother of August Jr. Also in the household are Lisette's daughters Elizabeth (25), Gertrude (20), and Alice R. (16) Schindler. August has been married to Gladys for 6 years and is the proprietor of a Cleaning Shop with his sister Gretrude. Lisette reports having immigrated in 1894. The same page of this census record has August's sister, Margaret. An email from Dave Heberlig on Feb 24, 2004 indicated that Gladys and August had two children, Sonny and Maxine. In another email, from Barb Sterling, grand daughter of Ester Keil, the children are named August Jr. and Maxine ... thus Sonny must be August III.
