August Schindler can be found the the 1890 Pittsburgh Directory living at 310 Cedar and working as a tailor and at Concord Alley and N Rose. In 1898 August is working as a tailor and living at 4110 Penn Av.

The 1900 U.S. Census for Pittsburgh, 17th Ward, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania, ED# 205 page 107A,B), dated June 12, 1900 records August (June 1868 - Germany/Germany/Germany) and Lizzie (Apr 1869 - Germany/Germany/Germany) Schindler with children Margaretta (Jan 1892 - PA), Emma (Nov 1893 - PA), Bertha (Sept 1896 - PA), August, Jr. (Nov. 1897 - PA), and Henry (Dec 1899 - PA) living at 4105 Penns Ave. August and Lisette indicate they have been married for 9 years and have had 5 children all of whom are still living. They report having immigrated in 1888 and 1889 respectively. August is a Merchant Tailor.

The 1910 Federal Census (Pittsburgh 8th ward, District 373, page 194B) records on April 27, 1910 the August Schindler family living in Pittsburgh, PA at 4791 Yew Street. Both August (40) and Lisette (41) have their place of birth described as German Bohemian and have been married 19 years with 8 children 7 of whom are still living (Henry has died). August has his own tailor shop. He immigrated in 1887 while Lisette in 1889. Included in the household are children Margaret (18), Emma (16), Bertha (14), August (12), Rosa (8), Elizabeth (5), and Gertrude (1/12).

The 1920 U.S. Census for Pittsburgh Ward 12, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania, ED# 502, page 36B records August (52 - Germany/Germany/Germany) and Lisetta (50 - Germany/Germany/Germany) Schindler with children August Jr. (23), Elizabeth (15), Gertrude (10), and Alice (5) living at 917 Murtland Ave. (917 North Murtland Street today) August is a Tailor. Also in the house is recently married Bertha Matthews (sic) (30) and her husband John W. (30 - PA/PA/PA) and their son John (4 1/12). John is a Bread Salesman. August and Lisette indicate they immigrated in 1888 and 1890 and became citzens in 1895. One could suspect that this Bertha is a daughter of August and Lisette; however, her age is not right and then there is a Bertha Schindler buried at Allegheny Cemetery who died in 1912. August's obituary (below) indicates he has but 5 surviving daughters ... as does Lisette's obituary.

The Pittsburgh Press, Monday Evening, February 14, 1927 - Obituary for August Schindler:
August Schindler, aged 59, died Saturday in his home, 7229 Kedron st. He was born in Wernesreuch-by-Asch [Czech Republic], Bohemia, in 1867 and came to America in 1889. Since then he had resided in Pittsburgh, and conducted a tailoring business in Bloomfield. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He leaves his widow, Lisetta Schindler; one son August Schindler, and five daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Bauer, Mrs. John H. Brown, and Elizabeth, Gertrude, and Alice Schindler.

Philadelphia Passenger Lists, 1800-1945 <ancestry.com> records:
August Schindler arrived in Philadelphia on 9 Jul 1890 aboard the Steam Ship Belgenland. The port of departure was Antwerp, Belgium and his estimated date of birth is abt 1867. This appears to be our August, however, he lists his occupation as Shoemaker and his intended destination as Erie, PA. Also, the 1900 Federal census for Erie, AP records an August Schindler age 38 from Germany having immigrated in 1891. The 1910 Fedaral census for Erie, PA records that same August Schindler as born in 1867 thus the above is not our August Schindler.
