Robert Newson, his wife, Florence, and mother, were brutally murdered by his nephew, Fred Klenner, Jr. (Fritz). Their bodies were discovered in the home of his mother, Hattie Newsom, 3239 Valley Road, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Robert was found lying on the floor in the archway leading from the living room. He had been shot five times, the fatal one in the back of his head.
Robert married Florence Abigail Sharp, daughter of James Merritt Sharp and Annie Britt Blackwell, on 25 Aug 1945 in Reidsville, Rockingham Co, N.C. (Florence Abigail Sharp was born on 14 Apr 1919 in Reidsville, Rockingham Co, NC and died on 18 May 1985 in Greensboro, Guilford Co., N.C..)
