Obituary posted at From www.findagrave.com Hattie Mae Hagood Bailey of 101 Franklin Turnpike died 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home. She had been in declining health for the past five years. She was born May 15, 1890, in Pittsylvania County, a daughter of the late Augustus Walker Hagood and Julia Anna Evans Hagood. She lived most of her life in Danville, where she operated J. R. Bailey & Son Store at New Design. She was a member of Design United Methodist Church, where she was a past Sunday School Teacher and the first president of the Women's Society. She was married to Charlie William Bailey, who died in January 1958. Survivors include two son, Charles C. Bailey and Robert L. Bailey, both of Danville; three daughters, Ellen B. Crutchfield, Virginia Beach, Carolyn B. Thomas, Wilmington, Del., and Janie B. Lumpkin, Danville.
