Katherine (Kate) Elizabeth Garrett

  General Notes:

The 1910 Federal Census for Salem, Roanoke Co., Va. records Kate as a public school teacher living with her parents. Later that year she marries. Her marriage certificate is on record at the Roanoke County Courthouse (1910 - MicroTape# 9/5.127) and states that she marries a Hugh Nelson Dyer whose parents are James and Lucy Dyer of Henry Co. Va. They are married in Salem by William H. Woolf (see notes on husband, Hugh, for an interesting twist).

William H. Woolf (57-born 1852-Methodist Preacher) is listed in the 1910 Census for Salem as married to Jennie M. (44-Maryland) with children Marie (25-W Va), Elsie K. (20-W Va), William H. Jr. (24-W Va.), and Edward (4-Virginia).

The WWII Draft Registration Card for her brother, Grady Garrett, lists Kate Dyer, living in Martinsville, VA as the person who will always know his address.

Katherine married Hugh Nelson Dyer, son of James Hardin Dyer and Lucy Jane Holt, on 17 Nov 1910 in Salem, Roanoke Co., VA. (Hugh Nelson Dyer was born on 9 Dec 1873 in Henry Co., Virginia, died on 26 Aug 1949 in Martinsville, Henry Co., VA. and was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Martinsville, VA.)
