Obituary of James B. Trost, 82 - 03/08/2010
The Rev. Canon James B. Trost, 82, of State College, departed this life Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Fairways at Brookline, State College. Born Feb. 17, 1928, in Lancaster, he was a son of the late Clarence A. and Frances Biggs Trost.

He graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1950 and graduated from the Episcopal Divinity Seminary in 1953. He was ordained a deacon in 1953 and a priest in 1954. James served as curate for the Episcopal Cathedral in Harrisburg from 1953 to 1955 and as curate at Christ Church in Andover, Mass. from 1955 to 1956. He was rector of St. Andrew's in York from 1956 to 1965, and rector of St. Andrew's in State College from 1965 to 1993. He was canon of the Harrisburg Cathedral from 1956.

During his tenure at St. Andrew's, State College, he oversaw the building of the Parish Life Center and spearheaded the founding of the State College Food Bank and St. Andrew's Preschool. He served on the board of Meals on Wheels, State College Advisory Commission on Aging, Drug and Alcohol Commission, AIDS Advisory Board State College, and the Centre County Council of Drugs and Alcohol. He was on the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania.

He is survived by his former wife, Mary Trost, of Dauphin; four children, Amy Klaban and her husband, Bill, of State College, Anthony Trost, of Dauphin, David Trost and his wife, Geri, of Mount Laurel, N.J., and Emily Trost, of Dauphin; and five grandchildren, Cameron Klaban and Ashley, Emily, Cole and Ileanna Trost.

There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 208 W. Foster Ave., State College. Inurnment in the church's columbarium will follow the service. A reception will immediately follow the service in Canterbury Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 208 W. Foster Ave., State College, PA 16801. Arrangements are under the care of Koch Funeral Home, State College.
