Abraham Coleman and his wife are recorded in the 1840 Pike Co., Kentucky Census ... Abraham was born in Floyd Co., Kentucky part of which later became Pike Co., Kentucky.

Abraham Coleman received a land grant of 50 acres along Greasy Creek in Pike Co., Kentucky that was surveyed and recorded Dec. 24 1845.

The 1850 Federal Census for Pike Co., Kentucky, dated August 7, 1850 records Abraham (42 - VA) and Rebecca (35 - VA) Coleman and their children Nathaniel (8 - KY), Riley (5 - KY), Nathaniel (3 - KY) [that's right ... a 2nd son named Nathaniel] and Elizabeth (1 - KY). Abraham is a farmer with real estate valued at $25 and Rebecca has real estate valued at $10. Next door is Elizabeth Adkins (64 - VA) [probably Rebecca's mother] and children Riley Adkins (17), Elizabeth Adkins (19), and Willard Adkins (6/12). Next door to them is William Adkins (29 - KY) with his wife Anna Adkins (20 - KY) and their children Nathaniel (5) and Sarah (3). Intreresting that just a few families away is Nathaniel Thacker and family ... Nathaniel Thacker (47 - VA) with his wife Delilah (47 - VA) and children ... Nathaniel is probably Rebecca's brother.

The 1860 Federal Census for Pike Co., Kentucky, page 94, dated July 21, 1860 records Abraham (53 - KY) and Rebecca (44 - VA) Coleman and their children Nathaniel (17 - KY), Riley (15 - KY), Mathew (13 - KY), Elizabeth (11 - KY), Rachal (9), David (6), Jonathan (4), and Mary (2). Abraham is a farmer with real estate valued at $200 and a personal estate valued at $150.

The 1870 Federal Census for Pike Co., Kentucky, Bent Branch P. O., page 98B, dated Aug 16, 1870 records Abraham (62 - KY) and Rebecca (56 - VA) Coleman and their children Rachael (19), David (16), Jonathan (13), and Mary (11). Abraham is a farmer with real estate valued at $200 and a personal estate valued at $200. The next two homes in the page are sons of Abraham: Mathew and Riley: Mathew (22) and Polly (22) Coleman with children Ammy (3) and Abraham (2); Riley (25) and Lucy (24) Coleman with children Abraham (4) and Nathaniel (2).


The death certificate of a son, Riley Coleman, indicates that Abraham was born in Virginia.

Abraham married Rebecca Adkins, daughter of William Adkins and Elizabeth Thacker, on 8 May 1840 in Pike Co., Kentucky. (Rebecca Adkins was born about 1816 in Virginia and died after 1870 in Pike Co., Kentucky.)
