The 1880 Federal Census for Upper Johns Creek, Pike Co., Kentucky, District 129, page 675A, dated June 11, 1880 records Mathew Coleman (33) with his wife Mary Coleman (31) and children Anna (15), Abram (10), Rebecca (8), James R. (5), and John (2).

The 1900 Federal Census for Burning Fork, Pike Co., Kentucky, District 86, page 194A, dated June 16, 1900 records Mathew (March 1847 - KY/KY/KY) and Susan (June 1852 - KY/VA/VA) Coleman with step daughters Sarah E. Thacker (Dec 1882) and Susan A. Thacker (March 1886). Also in the household is Mathew's son Riley Coleman (June 1882) and daughter Mary J. Coleman (March 1881). Mathew and Susan have been married for 33 years and have had 8 children of whom 6 are still living. [Of course, the 1880 census indicates Mat's wife was named Mary and the 1900 census indicates Susan was married to a Thacker ... thus Mat most likely had 2 wives]
