The WWI Draft Registration Card for James Riley Coleman dated July 12, 1918 records his date of birth as April 1, 1883. He is living in Mossy Bottom, Pike Co., KY and his nearest relative is W. T. Worrick. He is medium height with blue eyes and black hair.

The 1910 Federal Census for Burning Fork, Pike Co., Kentucky, District 174, page 55A, dated May 3, 1910 records Mat (63 - KY/KY/KY) and Susan (60 - KY/VA/VA) Coleman with step daughter Sarah Thacker (27), son Riley D. Coleman (17) and grand son Cleveland Coleman (13). This is the 2nd marriage for Mat and Susan and they have been married for 20 years. Susan has had 9 children of whom 6 are still living. Nearby is Mat's son, Abraham Coleman (39) and his wife of 22 years, Armanda Coleman (43). On the next page of the census record is Mat's son J. R. Coleman (26) with his wife Mary (25) and daughters Nancy J. (3) and Cordelia (7/12). J. R. and Mary have been married for 5 years and have had 2 children.

The 1920 Federal Census for Coal Run, Pike Co., Kentucky, District 108, page 38B, dated January 16, 1920 records J. R. Coleman (37) with his wife Mary (37) and daughters Nancy J. (13), Cordelia (11) and son Elijah (3). Next door are some of the Worick family [Mary's family]. J. R. continues to be in farming.

The 1930 census records his name as "Bird" or perhaps "Bud" ... see general notes on Ida Breedlove.

James next married Mary Worick circa 1905 in Pike Co., Kentucky. (Mary Worick was born circa 1884 in Pike Co., Kentucky, died on 25 May 1928 in Pike Co., Kentucky and was buried on 29 May 1928 in Price Cemetery, Pike Co., Kentucky.) The cause of her death was Tuberculosis.
