In the 1856 Isle of Wight, VA Chancery Court: Thomas R. Jenkins vs John R. Williams' admn & al [http://www.lva.virginia.gov/chancery/case_detail.asp?CFN=093-1856-015] Basically, in the middle of January 1856, Thomas R. Jenkins bought from John R. Williams (of Southampton Co., VA - adjacent to Isle of Wight) The Great Mill (aka Baker's Mill - a water grist mill) in the County of Isle of Wight, together with ten acres (more or less), and also about 25 hogs & a corn sheller. Tom Jenkins agreed to pay John R. Williams $1,375 and was to pay off the debt due by said Williams to H. B. Councill [Dr. Henry B. Councill] which was secured by a Deed of Trust on said Mill and property. On February 1, Tom Jenkins took full possesion of said Mill & fixtures, & land, hogs, & corn sheller and on February 11, 1856 paid H. B. Councill $1,371.95 leaving $2.05 due said Williams which complainant (Thomas R. Jenkins) is ready to account for - John R. Williams was unexpectantly taken sick and died [intestate] on the 21st day of February 1856 before he had made & executed a deed for the said property ... the execution of said deed was delayed in order to get a Release from H. B. Council, which had been prepared and signed but never executed.
John R. Williams, wife Sarah (Sally) J. Williams and children and their ages as of 1856: Elpenor (aged 15 years), Adriane (aged 13 years), Adrian (aged 9 years), Cassandra (aged 7 years), and Cleroa (aged 5 years) as of June 17, 1856. Another son, John R. Jr, was born ca 1849 but apparently died sometime during the 1850s.
Thomas married Harriet A. Daughtrey, daughter of Matthew Daughtrey and Mary A. (Nancy), circa 1848 in Isle of Wight Co., VA. (Harriet A. Daughtrey was born circa 1830 in Isle of Wight Co., VA and died after 1880 in Isle of Wight Co., VA.)
