The 1900 Federal Census for Martinsville, Henry Co., Va, District 54, page 136A records C. U. (Aug 1846) and V. A. (Oct 1859) [1849] Wingfield with children Mary (June 1875), John W. (Dec 1882), and James M. (Feb 1886). C. U. is a teamster and has been married to V. A. for 27 years and had 6 children of which 5 are still living.

THE HENRY BULLETIN, Fri., Sept. 7, 1928, p. 1, col. 6 [edited]. J. W. Wingfield, aged 82 years and 15 days, died Tuesday morning, September 4, at his home near Preston, Va., after a very brief illness. Death was due to a hemorrhage of the brain. Mr. Wingfield was born August 19, 1846, and was a life long resident of Henry County. He was the son of Charles Wingfield and Sallie Marshall Wingfield, both residents of Henry County. He was married about 54 years ago to Miss Virginia Frith, who still survives. Six children were born to this union. Mr. Wingfield was a resident of Martinsville for a number of years and held a position with the spoke and dowel factory. For the last few years he has been living near Preston, his occupation at the time of his death being a farmer. He is survived by a widow and five children: Mrs. Mollie Simpson of Martinsville; Mrs. Amos Davis of Preston; J. M. Wingfield of Martinsville; J. W. Wingfield of Preston, and Edwin Wingfield. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the College Street Baptist Church. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery. [The initials "J. W." in this article appear to be in error. Ref.
