I still haven't had a chance to look in my stuff but I have your e-mail and reread it and noticed that you ask who John Ashworth Hodges father was. He was Jerry. I doubt he was in good favor with the family. He hid to stay out of the civil war. Grandma (Mary Virginia Wingfield) remarried. John died early. I do have the dates. She married a Mr. Simpson. It didn't last long. She made her home with Lottie Adams mostly. That is probably where she was in the 1930 census. Lottie was married to Robert Adams and they lived in Leaksville NC.
My theory is that Jerry Hodges and Luther's fathers were brothers...

The 1930 Federal Census for Leaksville, Rockingham Co., NC records Robert (23 - NC) and Lottie (23 - VA) Adams married 3 years. Robert is a Truck Driver for what looks like the Spray Wood Yard and Lottie works in the Blanket Department of the Cotton Mill. Also in the household is the widowed mother-in-law, Mary V. Simpson (55 - VA).
