The North Carolina Birth Index (1800-2000) at ancestry.com lists John Andrew Hodges as the father of John Hardin Hodges. John Hardin Hodges DOB is given as 1892 in Stokes Co., NC.
The 1910 Federal Census for Martinsville, Henry Co., Va, District 70, page 127A records John A. (43 - NC) and Mary V. (35) Hodges with children Harden J. (18), William B. (6), Lottie Q. (4), and Jessie P. (4/12). This is the second marriage for John and first for Mary. They have been married 9 years and have 3 children together.
The 1920 Federal Census for Martinsville, Henry Co., Va, District 116, page 221B records John A. (53 - NC) and Mary (45) Hodges with children William (16), Lottie E. (12), and Jesse P. (10). William is listed as a wood worker at a furniture factory and John as a Driver.
The 1880 United States Federal Census for Snow Creek, Stokes Co., North Carolina, District 248, Page 382B records the widow Caroline Hodges (44) with children Delila (20), Jesse (16), John (13), James (11), Mallissa (8), and Lettie (6). All family members and their parents are born in NC. This is most probably John Ashworth Hodges' family in that his son, John Hardin Hodges indicates on his WWI Draft Registration Card that his place of birth is Sandy Ridge [Stokes Co.], NC. Sandy Ridge is just 5 or 6 miles south west of Martinsville, VA.
The 1870 United States Federal Census for Mayo Township, Patrick Co., Virginia, Nettle Ridge P.O., Page 495B records Jeremiah B. (43-VA) and Caroline (36-NC) Hodges with children Billie Lee [William] (14-VA/male), Martha C. (13-VA), Susan V. (10-VA), Armelia F. (7-VA), Jesse C. (5-VA), John A. (4-VA), and James M. (2-VA).

Hodges and Caroline Matilda Joyce. John Ashworth Hodges was born circa 1867 in North Carolina and died after 1920 in Martinsville, Henry County Virginia. Harriet Anne Eades was born circa 1863 in North Carolina and died circa 1893 in Stokes County, North Carolina. North Carolina Death Certificate for Emmit Eades records his parents as Winse Eades and Ellen Eades both born in Stokes Co., NC (which is not correct) Emmit is listed as born in 1866 and died April 8, 1945 at Martin Memorial Hospital in Mt. Airy, Surry Co., NC although his home was in Walnut Cove in Stokes Co., NC.
