Robert is a Truck Driver for what looks like the Spray Wood Yard and Lottie works in the Blanket Department of the Cotton Mill. Also in the household is the widow Mary V. Simpson (55 - VA/VA/VA, mother-in-law). Apparently Lottie's mother lost her husband, John Ashworth Hodges, and has remarried a Simpson and then lost him.

The 1940 Federal Census for West Leaksville-Spray-North Spray, Rockingham, North Carolina, District 79-6, page 94A, dated April 11, 1940 records Lottie H. (33 - VA) and Robert J. (34 - NC) Adams living at 302 something Street [could be Elisabeth]. Also in the household is Lottie's mother, Mollie Simpson (64 - VA).
