bullet  Research Notes:

GORDON, Nettie Keeton Mooring, of Irvington, widow of Joseph Wiley Gordon, former president of The Gordon Metal Company, died Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Rappahannock-Westminster Canterbury in Irvington, Virginia. The daughter of the late Floyd Keeton Mooring and Flora Lee Sangster Mooring, she and her husband lived for many years in Richmond and were members of First Presbyterian Church. She received her B.A. and M.F.A. degrees from Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU) and taught at Manchester High School and Trinity Episcopal School. Both an artist and a poet, Mrs. Gordon was the first art teacher at Trinity and was honored in 1979 when an area in the school was designated the Gordon Gallery. The first exhibit of paintings and other works by Theresa Pollak was held in the gallery in April 1979. In 1999, the ceramics studio in the new fine arts wing of Morgan Hall was also named in her honor. "A perfect legacy for a teacher who helped mold Trinity's art courses into the outstanding program it is today," according to the school's headmaster. Mrs. Gordon, a resident of Rappahannock-Westminster Canterbury since 1991 is survived by her sisters, Harriette Mooring Horner Marocchi of Sperryville, Virginia, Shirley Lee Mooring Stoneham of "Riverside", Lancaster County, and Wrenn Mooring Putney of Richmond. As requested by the deceased, there will be no funeral or memorial services. The family suggests that any memorial contributions be made to the Animal Welfare League, P.O. Box 975, White Stone, Va. 22578 or Trinity Episcopal School, 3850 Pittaway Drive, Richmond, Va. 23235.
