Obituary for Gloria J. Mears, daughter of Leroy and Laura Jester:
Mrs. Gloria J. Mears Gloria J. Mears, 80, wife of the late Albert W. Mears and a resident of Chincoteague, died at her residence on Wednesday, April 28, 2004. Born Oct. 22, 1923 on Chincoteague, Mrs. Mears was the daughter of the late LeRoy Jester Sr. and the late Laura (Belle) Davis. She was a member of Island Baptist Church, Chincoteague, and the Rebekah Sunday School Class. Visitation will be held today, May 1, from 7-9 p.m. at Salyer Funeral Home, Chincoteague. A funeral service will be held at Island Baptist Church on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Rick Foster and the Rev. Kevin Eley will officiate. Interment will be in John W. Taylor Memorial Cemetery, Temperanceville. Mrs. Mears is survived by a son, Bill Mears and wife June of Chincoteague; a daughter, Patricia Doughty and husband John of Chincoteague; a brother, LeRoy Jester Jr. of Chincoteague; four grandchildren, Kathy Long and husband John, Melanie Bass and husband Wayne, Amy Ingersolo and husband David and Paul Mears; four step-grandchildren, Billy Ingersolo, John Ingersolo, David Ingersolo and Janet Gregas; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Eastern Shore, P.O. Box 316, Parksley, VA 23421 or The Gideons International, P.O. Box 228, Melfa, VA 23410. Arrangements were made by Salyer Funeral Home, Chincoteague.
