(17), Greenville (16), James (14), Jinnie (12), George (10), Pattie (8), Samuel (6), John (5), and Lillie D. (3). Thomas is a Merchant with real estate valued at $18,000 and personal property at $100,000. All family members are born in Virginia. Most of the personal value is from the 76 slaves owned by Thomas. He will lose that wealth after the Civil War but continue to strive as an area merchant.

Many black families with the surname "Penn" now live and work in the area around Penn's Store. These area most likely former slaves of Thomas Penn and have taken the family name.
