Mr. Rawles was the retired owner and operator of the former Rawles Grocery and Market. He was an agent for Smith Douglas Fertilizer for some thirty-three years. He was a former employee of First National Bank and had served on the Board of Directors of Henderson Savings and Loan Company. He was a fifty-nine-year member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge #229 A.F. & A.M.He was a member of the Henderson York Rite Bodies and the Blandford Bute Council #18 Allied Masonic Degrees, the Sudan Shrine Temple, and the Henderson Shrine Club, where he served as treasurer from 1970 to 1982.He was Henderson Shrine Club "Shriner of the Year" in 1980. He was a charter member and served as the first president of the Henderson Exchange Club, was a charter member and Director Emeritus of the Vance County Historical Society. He was a former member of the Vance County Zoning Board and was a registered owner of a North Carolina Century Farm. He was a member and Deacon Emeritus of First Congregational Christian Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Finance Committee. Funeral services will be held Sunday, at 2 p.m., in First Congregational Christian Church, conducted by the Rev. George E. Williams. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens. Surviving are his wife of seventy-two years, Lula Mae Newman Rawles; three daughters, Betty R. Wall and husband Douglas of Wake Forest, Nancy R. Edmonds and husband Billy of Henderson, and Kaye R. Grissom and husband Bill of Henderson; a son-in-law, Macy V. Stainback of Henderson; eleven grandchildren, Eddie Stainback and wife Patsy, Kathy S. Anstead and husband Tommy, Kenny Stainback, William Edmonds III and wife Tracey, all of Henderson, Michael Wall and wife Sarah of Raleigh, Phyllis W. Carson and husband Tony of Baltimore, Md., Larry Wall and wife Brenda of Sharpsburg, N.C., Barry Wall and wife Janet of Rolesville, N.C., Evelyn E. Gay and husband Alan of Nashville, N.C., Wendy G. Tillotson and husband David of Durham, and Brian Grissom and wife Teresa of Lenoir, N.C.; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Odelle R. Stainback, and two sisters, Ruby R. Barnes and Thelma R. McHenry. The family will receive friends tonight, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home.
