Louis was the son of Sterling (Starling) Thompson and Margaret R. Shiver Thompson
He was married twice:
1. Lucinda Johnson Jan 3 1865 Augusta, Georgia
2. Della Eliza O'Neal Thompson Sept 14 1884 Wrightsville, Ga.
He had two sons by first marriage: Sterling Postell and Frank Madison Thompson
and had five children by second marriage: Cora, Claude Selma, Charlie, Annie Lou and Louis Mary, who was born two weeks before his death.

The many friends of Jesse Thompson extend to him their sympathy this morning on the death of his brother, Mr. Louis Thompson who died yesterday morning at Midville. Deceased was 42 years of age and was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends. The funeral will take place this morning at 10:00 o'clock from the residence of Jesse Thompson.

Louis married Della Eliza O'Neal on 14 Sep 1884. (Della Eliza O'Neal was born on 12 Apr 1864 in Georgia and died on 7 Sep 1958 in Swainboro, Emanuel Co., Georgia.)
