In an email from Candace Jeffers on 3/19/2006 (descendant of Sarah Rebecca Daughtrey): Cora was from Swainsboro Georgia and she came to Augusta to teach after college. She was boarded with a family on Tobacco Road and found the conditions so awful she threatened to leave. David [David Ellison Morgan] was on the school board and he moved her to his house. My grandfather [Franics (Frank) Evan Morgan] was living in Florida at the time and he was sent a message that they had a lovely school teacher living at home and he came to Augusta and they were married in 1911. Frank was the commisioner of roads and bridges and that job included being warden of the county stockade so my mother and her sisters grew up on the grounds of the prison. They had prisoners working in the house and kitchen and had a man named Jake, in for murder, as a driver for them for many years.


The 1900 United States Federal Census for Swainboro, Emanuel Co., Georgia, District 103 records Cora Thompson (June 1885) living with her widowed mother, Della E. Thompson (April 1864) and siblings Claude (June 1886), Charles (Sept 1887), Annie Lou (March 1889), and Louis (Sept 1890).
