The Philadelphia Passenger Lists from the immigration databases at ancestry.com record the arrival of the Patchell Family on 11 Aug 1847 from Londonderry, Ireland on board the Brig Clara: Hugh Patchell (68 - Laborer), Matty Patchell (66 - spinster), Hugh Patchell (16 - servant), Jas Patchell (13 - child), Saml Patchell (11 - child), and Thos Patchell (6 - child). This same database records possible children of Hugh and Matty who arrived in the United States, traveling together, before the arrival of their parents and younger siblings: On 5 Jul 1844 from Londonderry, Ireland onboard the ship Warren Hastings Charles Patchel, Elizabeth Patchel, Margaret Patchel On 30 Jul 1844 from Londonderry, Ireland onboard the ship Christiana Mary Ann Patchell and John Patchell

The 1850 Federal Census for Pittsburgh Ward 5, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania records Hugh Patchell (61 - Ireland) with his wife Martha (60 - Ireland) and children James (17 - Ireland) and Thomas (9 - Ireland). Daughter, Elizabeth married Abraham Hotsetter (see notes on daughter Mary Ann Patchell) and returns to the York Co. area: The 1850 Federal Census for Shippensburg, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania records Abraham Hotsetter (32 - PA) with his wife Elizabeth (32 - Ireland). Abraham is a Tailor with real estate valued at $4,000.
Note: The 1860 census records a Hugh Patchell (5 - PA) living with the Sisters of Mercy in Lower St. Clair Township, Allegheny Co., PA (Pittsburgh P.O.) ... as well as a Lizzie Patchell (8 - PA) in a Sisters of Mercy home in Pittsburg, Ward 3) ... it appears that Hugh is in a home for boys and Lizzie is in a home for girls ...
