Born on "Indian Camp" farm, the Woods' family homestead in Catawba, VA, Beatrice was the second of Joe & Leslie's four children. Her father sold the farm in the early 1900's and moved the family to Salem to open The Woods Hardware Co.
She attended Roanoke Women's College [later Elizabeth College] and graduated in 1912 with First Distinction. She was a charter member of the Poe Literary Society and in 1918, became President of the Elizabeth College Alumnae Association.
Beatrice was originally a patient of Dr. William Clyde Jones, her dentist, and consented to become his wife in 1921. They purchased a home on High Street before 1924 and lived there across from Roanoke College for many years. They had 3 children, all girls, Aminee, Beatrice and Charlotte.
Raised a Lutheran, she later joined the First United Methodist Church in Salem. She was an enthusiastic bridge player, compassionate and charitable and a good cook. She passed away after an operation for a brain tumor.


The 1920 Federal Census for Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, District 126 records Beatrice Woods (13 - VA/VA/VA) living with her widowed mother Leslie H. Woods (45 - VA/VA/VA) and brothers Harry W. (21) and Lynn M. (17) at 34 Chestnut Street. Harry is a helper at a bank.

The 1910 Federal Census for Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, District 135 records Beatrice Woods (13 - VA/VA/VA) living with her parents Joseph R. (46 - VA/VA/VA) and Leslie (35 - VA/VA/VA) Woods and siblings Aminse (14 - VA/VA/VA), Harry (10 - VA/VA/VA), and Lynn (7 - VA/VA/VA) on Chestnut Street. Joseph is a hardware merchant and has been married to Leslie for 15 years. Leslie has had 4 children all of whom are still living.

The 1900 Federal Census for Catawba District, Roanoke Co., Virginia, District 72 records Beatress Woods (July 1897 - VA/VA/VA) living with her parents Joseph R. (August 1863 - VA/VA/VA) and Mary L. (Dec 1874 - VA/VA/VA) Woods and siblings Amine (Oct 1895 - VA/VA/VA), and William H. (Aug 1899 - VA/VA/VA). Joseph is a farmer and has been married to Mary Leslie for 5 years. Leslie has had 3 children all of whom are still living. Also in the household is Texas Scott (Oct 1877) as a servant.

Beatrice married Dr. William Clyde Jones, son of William Thomas Breckenridge Jones and Elizabeth Rachael Garrett, on 5 Feb 1921 in Salem, Roanoke Co., VA. (Dr. William Clyde Jones was born on 7 Nov 1885 in Henry Co, VA, died on 13 Mar 1971 in Lexington City, Virginia and was buried in East Hill Cemetery, Salem, VA Div 3 / Section 11.)
