Dods (23 - VA) living with his parents John (52 - VA) and Sarah (50 - VA) Dods (sic) and siblings Frank (25), Bartlett (21), Harriet (18), Mack (14), Charles (12), Walter (7), and Leah (5). John is a Farmer with real estate valued at $300 and personal property valued at $100.

The 1880 Federal Census for Buffalo Township, Rockbridge Co., Virginia, District 67, page 92B, dated June 3, 1880 records John W. (30 - VA/VA/VA) and Lucy E. (26 - VA/VA/VA) Dodd with children Sarah A. (13), James McC (9), and John W. (3/12 - February). John is a laborer on a farm.

The 1930 Federal Census for Buchanan, Botetourt Co., Virginia, District 6, page 105A, dated April 26, 1930 records John W. (77 - VA/VA/VA) and Nora A. (42 - VA/VA/VA) Dodd with children Claude N. Dodd (16) and Hazel Dodd (13) living North of Buchanan. John has no employment. John was first married at age 18 while Nora was first married at age 20.

The 1940 Federal Census for Buchanan, Botetourt Co., Virginia, District 12-8, page 129A, dated April 3, 1940 records the widow Nora A. Dodd (51 - VA) with her son Claude M. Dodd (24) living along Route#11. Also in the household is her father, John H. Dodd (81), who is listed as single. Nora owns her home valued at $1,800. Claude is employed as a Welder at a Garage earning $780 working 52 weeks during the last year.

John Will Dodd, age 86 years, 10 months, highly respected citizen, died at his home here, Thursday morning, August 22, 1935, following a protracted illness.

Mr Dodd was born at Lyle, Va. Later his parents moved to Rockbridge county, where he married Miss Lucy Clement, December 2, 1868. They made their home there for several years, then resided in Springfield, Ohio, for ten years, next returning to Virginia where they spent the remaining years at Buchanan.
Mrs Dodd died April 14, 1906. On April 7, 1909, Mr Dodd married Miss Nora Fink.
Mr Dodd was a good citizen, a kind, indulgent husband and father and a loyal friend and neighbor.
Surviving are his widow and the following children: Mrs J W Montgomery, of Lapel, Ind.; Mrs W A Wilson, of Rustburg; Mrs Walker Stinnett, of Roanoke; Mrs H A Chenault, Miss Hazel Dodd, Harry Dodd and Claude Dodd, of Buchanan; John W Dodd, Jr., of Baltimore, Md.; James Dodd, of Alexandria, and Lester Dodd of Lynchburg.
Funeral services were held from the Buchanan Baptist church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock conducted by the pastor, Rev D E Murray.
Burial was in Fairview cemetery here.
The active pallbearers were his nephews: Luther Stinnett, Everett Stinnett, Clarence Stinnett, Ira Stinnett, Ashton Stinnett, Alton Stinnett.
Honorary pallbearers: Messrs, B M Paine, Albert Drinkard, B M Strickland, B S Madison, C S Blount, G H Brugh, Andrew Gilliam, Clarence Smith, A K Miller, L M Rodeniser, Henry Hayth.
Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Buchanan, Botetourt Co., VA
