The 1850 Federal Census for the Eastern District, Isle of Wight Co., VA, page 179B, dated November 20, 1850 records Mary Carr (30 - VA) with her husband John Carr Jr. (43 - VA) and children Margaret Carr (10), Roxanna Carr (9), Miles J. Carr (8), Cherry E. Carr (5), and Sally A. Carr (3). John is a farmer with real esate valued $178.
John apparently dies during the 1850s in that the 1860 census records his wife Mary, and children Mills I. Carr, Cherry E. Carr, Salley A Carr, and John B. Carr living with Mary's grand father, Mills Daughtrey. Two of Mary's children, Margaret Carr and Miles Carr, are living with her sister, Susan Daughtrey: The 1860 Federal Census for the Eastern District, Isle of Wight Co., VA records Mills Daughtrey (70 - VA) living with his daughter, Mary W. Austin (42 - VA) and children Mills J. Carr (15), Cherry E. Carr (14), Sally A. Carr (12), and John B. Carr (9). [... Mary is briefly married to Richard Austin but by 1870 she is listed as Mary Carr ... see 1870 census below...] Near by is another daughter of Mills & Cherry Daughtrey, Martha Saunders (28 - VA) with her husband William Saunders (28 - VA) and their children James M. Saunders (5) and Ida O. Saunders (2). Also in that household is Robert Saunders (21).
The 1870 Federal Census for the Windsor Township, Isle of Wight Co., VA, page 314, dated August 15, 1870 records Mary Carr (53 - VA) with children Cherry E. Carr (22), Sallie A. Carr (19), and Jno. B. Carr (18). Next door is Mary's sister, Laura V. Saunders (36) with her husband Bryant Saunders (39 - NC) and daughter Martha E. (13)

Austin & that he has been unkind & cruel to her, and would squander what ever estate she might get as an heir of said James Goodmandecd and she prays the court to direct the payments to her as her separate estate free from any control of her said husband.
