Birth and Death dates as well as the spelling of the last name, Morel, come from the cemetery listing for Poplar Springs Cemetery in Franklin, VA. Section 1 (old part) located on High Street near the ravine.

The 1920 Federal Census, Virginia, Southampton Co., Town of Franklin, District 213 (January 16, 1920) page 199A records the widow Minnie B. Morl (sic) (37) and sons James L. (15), Meridith W. (14), and Marcus R. (11) Morell living at 104 High Street.

The 1910 Federal Census, Virginia, Southampton Co., Town of Franklin, District 119 (April 19, 1910) records James L. Morrell (37-Machinist) with wife Minnie (37) and sons James L. Jr. (5), Meridith (4), and Marcus R. (1 8/12) Morrell living on High Street. They have been married 8 years. Also in the household are nephews William L. (25) and Richard (23) Rawls. William L. (Oct 1885) and Richard H. (March 1888) Rawls can be found in the 1900 Federal Census for Cypress District, Nansemond Co., Va., District 24, pages 48A/B. Their parents are Re???[Richard] (Oct 1854) and Mary L. (June 1862) Rawles. Siblings include Shirley H. (May 1883), Bessie (Sept 1884), Clyde (Apr 1890), Dudley (March 1891), Adelaide (March 1893), Elisha (March 1894), Sidney (April 1895), and Adatta (Feb. 1898). Next door are William (Sept 1820) and Cassandra (April 1836-2nd marriage/ married 16 years-indexed as Carrada) Rawles. The parents have apparently died by 1910 because Shirly H. Rawls (26) becomes the head of a household with Dudley (18), Adley (16), Elisha (15), and Sidney (14).

The Re [Richard] (and Mary) Rawles above are the children of William and Mary E. Rawls. The 1880 Federal Census for Virginia, Nasnemond Co., Cypress District 53 records William (59) and Mary E. (42) Rawls. Also in this household are daughter Mary (18), son Richard J. (26) as well as William's father William Rawls (97) and Mary A. Hamilton (70) who is listed as mother. A note beside William (97) is "The oldest person in the county". This is the correct family in that a few doors down is Wiley and Eliza Reid who are also neighbors in the 1900 census.
The 1870 Federal Census for Virginia, Nasnemond Co., Cypress Chapel District records William (43) and Mary E. (42) Rawls with children Richard T. (16), Marageret R. (13), and Mary J. (8). Next door is William Rawls Sen. (87) and a few doors down is Wiley and Eliza Copeland Reid.
The 1860 Federal Census for Virginia, Nasnemond Co. records William (39) and Mary E. (30) Rawls with son Richard (6) and daughter Margaret (4). Also in this household are William Rawls (77), Elizabeth Rawls (25) and Mary E. Hamilton (12).
The 1850 Federal Census for Virginia, Nasnemond Co. records William Rawls (30) as head of the household with William Rawls Sr. (68) and Julia (55), Lucy (26), Elizabeth (15), and Margaret (23) Rawls. All members of this family are born in Nansemond Co. It is of interest that this census records a few doors down from the William Rawls family a Mary A. Hamilton (40) with children Mary E. (20), Margaret R. (18), John T. (17), and Henrietta (7) Hamilton. This is the Mary Hamilton living in the household of William and Mary Rawls as listed in the 1880 census above. William's wife, Mary, is the daughter of this Mary Hamilton.
