Benjamin Porter (>45), 2 males (<10), 1 males 10-16), 1 female (26-45), 1 female (<10), 1 female (10-16), 1 female (16-25), 5 persons engaged in agriculture, 4 males slaves (<14), - - 2 males slaves (>45), 1 female slave (<14), 1 female slave (<26).

The 1830 census lists Andrew and Benjamin Porter:
The 1830 Federal Census for Nansemond Co., VA (image 29 of 93) records Andrew Rawls (50-60) as the head of household with 1 male (<5) [Andrew Jackson], 2 males (5-10) [Henry & Elisha], 1 male (15-20) [Randolph], and 1 female (40-50) [Abigail], 1 female (<5) [Betsy], 2 females (5-10), 3 females (10-15). He has 7 slaves recorded at his farm.

The 1840 census for Nansemond Co., VA (image 32 of 81) records the household of Andrew (60-70) with 1 male (10-15), 2 males (15-20), 1 female (50-60), 2 females (10-15), 1 female (15-20), and 2 females (20-30). Andrew owns 10 slaves. Next door is Abram Copeland with his wife [Andrew's daughter, Eliza Rawls] and daughter.

The 1850 census for Nansemond Co., VA records the household of Andrew (73) with Jane (26), Elizabeth (23), and Andrew J. Rawls (22), and Martha C. Vaughn (2 - born in Isle of Wight - this is his grand daughter, daughter of Martha Rawls who married John Vaughn). In 1850 the Andrew Rawls family has real estate valued at $2,000. The 1850 Slave Schedule lists Andrew with 11 slaves: (50-m), (50-f), (35-f), (18-f), (12-f), (10-f), (9-m), (6-m), (5-m), (2-m), (1-m).

In the Virginia 1850 Agricultural Census, Vol 4, Andrew Rawls is recorded as follows: 75 Acres of Improved Land, 274 Acres of Unimproved Land, 2,000 Cash Value of the Farm, 100 Value of Farming Implements and Machinery

Andrew's farm, "Somerton Hall", was devised to his son Andrew Jackson Rawls in Nansemond Co., VA. See notes on Andrew's grand father John Rawls.

Grave stones recorded below: could these be related to my Andrew (Bo Hagen 12/1998), dates seem right and Andrew has a son he names Elisha. Additional research indicates that Zilpha and Elijah are children of Hardy Rawls, son of William. Elijah married Margaret Jones and had children, some of whom listed in 1850/1860 census records include: Jarusha (b ca 1832, Maria(h) (b ca 1820), Japeth (b ca 1837), and Luther (b ca 1835). Margaret continues to live with son Luther and his family after Elijah dies. The Zilpha listed below is probably wife to Hardy.
