- Born: Abt 1842, Gates Co, NC
- Marriage: Daily
- Died: 14 May 1863, Richmond, VA about age 21
- Buried: Hollywood Cem., Richmond, VA.
General Notes:
In 1860 Judson is living with his parents ... see general notes on his father, William H. Doughtie.
Judson E. N. Doughtie enlisted as a private in Company E, 6th Infantry Regiment Virginia on August 6, 1861. He was hospitalized for measles on October 18, 1861. He reenlisted in Company E, 6th Infantry Regiment Virginia on April 30, 1862 and was promoted to Sergeant. (Judson El) Nathan Doughtie died of disease on May 14, 1863 in Richmond, VA. Some sources indicate he died in a hospital in Farmville, VA. There is a Confederate muster roll record that indicate he was "dead in a Hospital in Richmond, VA on May 16, 1863. Page 427 reports that Judson Doughtie "gave his life for the Lost Cause, killed in Cumberland City, near Farmville, in May 1864." This researcher believes the Hollowood Cemetery records are most likely correct.
This is most probably the Elnathan Doughtee listed as the son of William H. Doughtie in the 1850 Gates Co, N.C. census and as Nathan in the 1860 Nansemond Co. VA census.
The 1870 Federal Census for Cypress Chapel, Nansemond Co., VA, page 206B records Daily (30) and Elizabeth (9) Doughty [Doughtie]. This may be the family of Nathan Doughtie who died in the Civil War. Note: There is a marriage records for Nansemond County, VA for a Lizzie Doughtie [Sarah Elizabeth Doughtie] that names a parent as Dailey Doughtie ... the record is a bit strange in that it names the father as Daily Doughtie and the mother as Henry Collins and the spouse as George Byrd ... this researcher has not found any record for George Byrd and / or family.
The 1880 Federal Census for Cypress Magisterial District, Nansemond Co., VA, District 53, page 55B, dated June 26, 1880 records the widow Darly Doughdie [Daily Doughtie] (40 - VA) with daughter Sarah (18 - VA) living with the black family of Arline and Lucy Miles. The next page of the census records William H. Doughtie, brother of Judson and Bolden.
