Abraham Zug was born in 1761 in Lancaster Co., Pa. He married Maria Kurtz about 1785. Maria was born Aug 21, 1767 and died June 24, 1811. She was the daughter of Abraham and Barbara Bolinger Kurtz. Abraham and Maria became parents of 11 children. Joseph was their first child. In 1808, Abraham and Maria purchased the beautiful "Clairfields" residence on 150 acres overlooking the Conestoga Creek still in existence today at 651 Millcross Road near what is called Zook's Corner. Abraham and his sons built and operated a mill and dam. Their typically large family was active in the Amish community.
Taken from Memo 10/22/1932 from A.E. Lacy, Detroit, Mich. based on data from Mae (Zook) Van Derem:
About 1808 or prior, Abraham Zook (the name was changed in Revolutionary days), moved to East Lampeter Twp, Lancaster Co, Pa, where he had a fine farm, large grist and fulling mills which are still standing on the banks of the Conestoga Creek and a beautiful brick home now (1938) owned as the country seat of Mr. Walter Posey, President of the Lancaster Iron Works, and who has preserved it with all muniments of title, and ornamented the place with an artificial lake and over 6000 evergreens.
Abraham married Maria Kurtz. (Maria Kurtz was born on 21 Aug 1767 in Lancaster PA. and died on 24 Jun 1811 in East Lampeter Township, Lancaster Co., PA.)
