The 1850 Federal Census for Burkes, Stewart Co., Georgia, page 49A, dated August 27, 1850 records John Mattocks (2 - GA) living with his parents Matthew (35 - GA) and Martha (33 - NC) Mattocks and siblings William (12 - GA) [male], M. F. O. (12 - GA) [female], J. H. H. (8 - GA) [male], John (7 - GA), Elizabeth (5 - GA), and M. M. (9/12 - GA) [male].
The 1860 Federal Census for Precinct 8, Coffee Co., Georgia, Buzbeeville P. O., page 874, dated August 6, 1860 records Jesse J. Mattox (12 - GA) living with his mother Martha Mattox (44 - GA) and siblings John B. (18 - GA), Eliza R. (14 - GA), Matthew M. (11 - GA), Jeptha C. (9 - GA), Sarah (8 - GA), Thomas J. (6) - GA, Lawa B. B. (5 - GA) [female / Laura], and Alfred (2 - AL). Note that Matthew is not living with most of his family; however: The 1860 Federal Census for Precinct 8, Coffee Co., Georgia, Buzbeeville P. O., page 875, dated August 4, 1860 records [in household 845] Matthew Maddox (45 - GA) as a farmer with real estate valued at $1,000 and a personal estate valued at $3,350 including 2 slaves. Careful inspection reveals that the census pages are out of order and that Martha and family are residing with Matthew. Nearby are several of Matthew's and Martha's sons: [household 847] Wm J. Maddox (22 - GA) with his wife Sarah (20 - GA) and chidren William O. (3), Lucius (2), and Infant (9/12); [household 851] James W. Maddox (20 - GA) with his wife Susan (20 - AL) and daughter Martha (6/12 - AL). Also in that household is James' siblings, John B. Maddox (18 - GA) and Mary E. Maddox (22 - GA).

(Jan 1850 - AL/AL/AL) Maddox and children Joseph B. (Dec 1885), Alfred I. (Oct 1887), Charley (March 1889), David P. (April 1891), and Ida L. (Feb 1893). Jessie is a Farmer and has been married for 29 years. Martha has had 14 children of whom 11 are still living.

By 1920 Martha has passed away and Jesse has remarried: The 1920 Federal Census for Elba, Coffee Co., Alabama, District 52, page 29B, dated January 13, 1920 records Jessie J. (71 - GA/GA/GA) with his wife Sallie V. (40 - AL/AL/AL) Maddox and step-children Evelin Mason (13) and William H. Mason (9). Jesse has no occupation and living on Smith Avenue.
