The 1920 Federal Census for Portsmouth, Washington Ward, VA, District 188, page 232B, dated January 17, 1920 records Jesse B. Doughtie (25 - NC/NC/NC) with his wife Dessie M. Doughtie (22 - NC/NC/NC) and daughter Jesse May (2 3/12 - VA). Also in the household is Jesse's sister, Grace L. Doughtie (17 - NC/NC/NC). Jesse is a Conductor for the Railroad. Note: Grace is Jesse's 1/2 sister.
The 1910 Federal Census for Ahoskie Township, Hertford Co., NC, District 46-3, page 52B, dated June 5, 1940 records the widow Dessie Doughtie (43 - NC) with her children Jessie Doughtie (23 - VA), Mac Doughtie (16 - VA), and Rosa Doughtie (14 - VA) living with Jessie's parents, John A. Brinkley (65 - NC) and Rosa Brinkley (66 - NC). Jessie indicates that she was living in this same house on April 1, 1935.
Jesse married Dessie M. Brinkley circa 1917. (Dessie M. Brinkley was born circa 1897 in North Carolina and died after 1940 in Ahoskie, Hertford Co., NC.)
