Robert and Dora have been married 10 years and have had 5 children of whom 4 are still living. Next door is Dora's widowed mother, Parthenia Chalkey, and her family.

(16), Archer C. (14), Eugene (12), May C. (8), William (7), and Fendel R. (1/12). Robert and Dora have been married 19 years and have had 8 children of whom 7 are still living.

The 1920 Federal Census for Dale, Chesterfield Co., Virginia, District 9, page 114B records Robert B. (44) and Dora J. (42) Ellis with children Burton (28), May (18), William (16), and Fendley (9) living on Zion Hill Road near the inersection with Hopkins Road. They are living next door to Dora's mother, Pathina (78-widow) Chalkley, and her children Nannie (40), Willie (34), and grand son Burton Chalkley (11).

The 1930 Federal Census for Dale, Chesterfield Co., Virginia, District 9, page 114B records the widower Robert B. Ellis (64) living with sons Burton (28) and Fendell (20) near Beulah Church and Iron Bridge Road.

The 1940 Federal Census for Dale, Chesterfield Co., Virginia, District 21-6, page 105A, dated May 22, 1940 records the widower Robert B. Ellis (74) living at 226 Salem Road [Rte 642]. Also in the household are Grace Ellis (44 - VA), Eugene Ellis (38 - VA), Grace L. Clark (20 - Michigan), and Stewart R. Clark (18 - VA). Robert is a Farmer and owns his home valued at $6,000. It is noted that Grace is listed as "wife", Eugene as "son", Grace L. as "daughter-in-law", and Stewart as "son-in-law". There is an "M" [married] notation next to both Robert's as well as Grace's name.
