From Souvenir Sketches James B. Morgan M. D., a rising young practitioner of Augusta Ga., was born in Richmond County, May 10, 1858. He is a son of Frederick T. and Frances E. O. (Doughtry (sic)) Morgan, the former of whom was born in Edgefield, S.C. in 1820, and died in August 1865.
Dr. Morgan is the eldest of a family of four children - James P., George W., Marion E. and William F. He was educated at the common schools and at Houghton Institute, from which latter he graduated in 1874. He then taught school for about two years in Richmond County, afterward studying medicine with Dr. Thomas R. Wright. He graduated as M. D. from the medical College of Augusta in 1885, and the same year was one of the clinical assistants; the year following he was made assistant demonstrator of anatomy, and still holds that position. He is also a member of the Augusta Academy of Medicine. Since his graduation he has maintained a high rank as a practitioner. He does not belong to that class who consider everything as accomplished and who are content to accept as their full measure of knowledge, the acquirements of others; he lives and acts under the conviction that there is yet unattained knowledge, and thus it is his duty as well as his right to discover, by research and experiment, the hidden facts of science. He is possessed of great talent, and for so young a man has acquired a large amount of experience.
