bullet  General Notes:

In an email from Candace Jeffers on 3/19/2006 (decendent of Sarah Rebecca Daughtrey): Sara Daughtry was blind as a result of cataracts as I remember. She doted on her sons and when they worked in the fields of the farm as little ones she would stand at the end of the rows and give them a piece of candy from her apron when they completed the row. No one stayed on the farm except Louis and he was a recluse of sorts, growing vegetables and fruits for a living. There were several reclusive members of the family. One was Llewelyn Morgan. He would not leave the farm area to work. They sent Dr. Morgan out to get him and to tell him he had to go to work. He agreed and went to get his things. When Dr. Jimmy went to find him after a long delay he had taken an overdose of laudnum. I don't know if you want to claim this bunch or not!!!!!!

Note: Laudanum was a wildly popular drug during the Victorian era. It was an opium-based painkiller prescribed for everything from headaches to tuberculosis. Victorian nursemaids even spoon fed the drug to cranky infants, often leading to the untimely deaths of their charges.
Originally, Laudanum was thought of as a drug of the working class. As it was cheaper than gin it was not uncommon for blue-collar men and woman to binge on laudanum after a hard week's work. Use of the drug spread rapidly. Doctors of the time prescribed it for almost every aliment. Many upper-class women developed habits.
