Thomas (Tom) J. Belcher

  General Notes:

The 1910 Federal Census records Thomas and his son Benjamin as Box Manufacturers. Thomas Belcher and family are living next to his mother, Jane Belcher.

The 1920 Federal Census for Snow Creek, Franklin Co., VA, District 62, page 226B, dated January 16, 1920 records Thomas J. Belcher (59 - VA/VA/VA) with his wife Nannie N. Belcher (58) and children Ruby V. Belcher (17) and Andrew T. Belcher (14). Also in the household is Tom's nephew, Burton Ransey (4 6/12).

The 1930 census records the family living on the Figsboro Road which is currently known as Snow Creek Road. According to Bea Akers in a March 2004 interview, Charlie and Marcella are buried at the "Old Home Place" owned by Uncle Tom Belcher. Bea says that the Parcell family bought the property after Tom died [in 1952]. The Belcher Home Place is located just south of Snow Creek on Rte 619 (on the west side of the road looking right heading south). [There is a long driveway and the grave yard in is the front of the house just over the hill from Rte 619.]

The 1930 Federal Census for Snow Creek, Franklin Co., VA, District 17, page 213A, dated April 18, 1930 records the widower Thos J. Belcher (70 - VA/VA/VA) with his sons, Ben R. Belcher (37) and Andrew T. Belcher (24) living on Figsboro Road.

The 1940 Federal Census for Snow Creek, Franklin Co., VA, District 34-18B, page 299B, dated May 4, 1940 records the widower Thomas J. Belcher (80 - VA/VA/VA) with his son Andrew Belcher (35) as well as his daughter Myrtle S. Brodie (44) and her son Robert Brodie (10) living on Rte 619.

Thomas married Nannie Mary Prunty, daughter of Robert Prunty and Rebecca S. Neblett, about 1888 in Snow Creek, Franklin Co., VA. (Nannie Mary Prunty was born on 26 Dec 1868 in Snow Creek, Franklin Co., VA, died on 1 Feb 1928 in Snow Creek, Franklin Co., VA. and was buried in Belcher Cemetery, Snow Creek, Franklin Co., Va..)
