bullet  General Notes:

The 1850 U.S. Census, Virginia, Pittsylvania Co., Northern District page 233B records Anderson (44) and Nancy (31) Adkins and children Ralph (13), Betsey (11), Henry (8), and Calep (1) living next door to Anderson's brother, Calep Adkins (30) and his wife, Betsey (19). Next door on the other side is John P. Reynolds (40) with wife, Rhoda (38), and children William (15), Elizabeth (13), Susan (11), John (7), Jabez (5), and what looks to be Henry (9 - female) but could be Hersy. Hersy will become the wife of Ralph Adkins. [This is generally agreed to be Heary Ann Reynolds]

The 1860 Federal Census for North District, Pittsylvania Co., VA, Museville P. O., page 177 records Anderson Adkins (52) with wife Nancy B. (40) and children Ralph (23), Henry (16), Caleb (12), John (10), and William N. (5). On page 193 of the same North District is John P. Reynolds (51) and children Susan A. S. (22), (what looks to be) Harsie A. (20), John B. (18), and Jabe S. (15). Anderson has 3 slaves.

The 1870 Federal Census for Museville, Pittsylvania Co., VA, page 261 records Owen Adkins Sr. (75) living in the household of Thomas (40) and Nannie (25) Kendrick. Also in this household is Christopher Kendrick (25), son of Louisa Kendrick and Owen Adkins. Living nearby are Anderson Adkins (64) and wife Nannie (50) with children Ralph (30), Betsy (28), Jno W. (18), William N. (15), and Henry G. (11). Several of their other children are living nearby: Richd S. (32) and wife Hersy (27) with children Rhody N. E. (4) and William H. (1) as well as Caleb (21) and wife Mira (21) with children Quella (4-female), Joseph (2), and Thomas (3/12).
In an email from Violet Nadine (Deanie) Adkins in Dec 2006:
I've never heard of these Kendricks but as you already know, there are Kendricks in the Adkins family.
Nannie is Nancy Booker Reynolds Adkins. Hersy is Heary Ann Reynolds Adkins. Richd S. has to be Ralph G. Adkins - my great-grandfather. Rhody is Rhodie N.E. Adkins....never knew what the initials N. E. stands for and that's what is on her tombstone. Mira is Elmira G. Reynolds Adkins. Quella is Aquilla Ann Adkins.

The 1880 Federal Census for Callands, Pittsylvania Co., Va., Dist 164, page 50B records Ralph Adkinds (sic) (43) with wife Herzy E. (40) and children Rhody (14), William (10), John T. (7), and Claiborne (9/12 - Sept). The 1870 census names "Richd" Adkins as husband to Hersy, however, the name Richard Adkins is never found in other census records for the area/time ... perhaps it is actually Ralph Adkins and his father named him in the 1870 as being in his household instead of next door ... or perhaps there was a Richard and he died and Hersy remarries this Ralph Adkins. Nearby are Owen Adkins Sr. (90) who is living next door to his daughter Permillia and her children as well as other Adkins cousins.

see notes on his uncle, Owen Adkins (born ca 1790), for 1870 census facts.
