General Notes:
The 1860 United States Federal Census for North East Ward, Lancaster City, PA, page 847B, records John Baker (33 - Clerk), James Baker (7), and Margaret Baker (18). This Margaret Baker is probably Margaret Pearson since Margaret is not living with her sister Mary and her widowed mother. (see general notes on her grand mother Susanna Keller Shirk and mother Salome Shirk Pearson) ... this researcher believes that this John Baker is the son of John and Elizabeth Baker (Becker) and the brother of Henry and Martin Baker (Becker) as described below referencing the researching of Harry Baker ... alleged brother of Mary Elizabeth Baker, 1/2 sister to Edwin W. Hagen.
The 1870 United States Federal Census for Lancaster City, Ward 1, PA, page 174, records John Baker (43 - Recorder of Deeds), wife Elizabeth (40), son James (18) and daughter Annie M. (8). Also in the household are Maggie A. Baker (28), Lillie M. Baker (4), Mrs. Susan Baker (72), and Annie M. Baker (34). [Mrs Susan Baker and Annie M. Baker are actually Susanna Keller Shirk and her daughter, Anna M. Shirk, while Maggie A. Baker and Lillie M. Baker are Maggie Pearson Baker and her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Baker]
The 1880 Federal Census for Lancaster City, Pa. (ED#154, page 119B) records Susan Shirk (82) living with daughter Annie M. Shirk (44) in the home of son-in-law John Baker (52) and his wife Elizabeth (49) and children Annie (18) and James (27) at 519 West Chestnut Street. A few blocks away at 314 West Chestnut is Susan Shirk's married grand daughter, Mary Pearson Eberly (married to Adam J. Eberly).
The above John Baker listed through 3 census records is probably NOT the Dr. ??? Baker who was the father to the two Baker children of Margaret Ann Pearson ... however ... he is probaly the brother-in-law of Margaret (Maggie) Pearson Baker and brother of Jacob E. Baker.
Notes below are referencing the researching of Harry Baker ... alleged brother of Mary Elizabeth Baker, 1/2 sister to Edwin W. Hagen II ... A written paper in the possession of Mary Lou Hagen Taylor (a copy of the document with L. Bolling Hagen - August 2007) records family facts noting that Harry Baker lived in Denver and his father was a Dr. Baker who subsequently was divorced from Maggie Pearson. While I always thought that the "lived in Denver" meant Denver, Colorado, the census records below indicate that there is a Denver Borough in Lancaster Co., PA. To date I have not found any documentation for that brother, however, below is some documentation regarding a possible individual that could be that brother:
The 1940 Federal Census Denver Borough, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, District 36-20 (image 32 of 38 at www.ancestry.com), page 356B, dated May 13, 1940 records Harry S. Baker (78 - PA) with his wife Ida (72 - PA) living at 112 South Forth Street. Harry owns is home valued at $2,000. He indicates that he is retired and has had no income in the last year.
The 1930 Federal Census Denver Borough, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, District 20 records Harry S. Baker (68 - PA/PA/PA) with his wife Ida (62 - PA/PA/PA) living at 112 South Forth Street. Harry reports being married since age 23 and Ida since age 19. Harry is a Knitter at a Hosiery Mill.
The 1920 Federal Census West Cocalico, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, District 11 records Harry S. (56) and Ida (52) Baker with daughter Ellen Baker (15) living on Garfield Street. Harry is a Public School Teacher.
The 1910 Federal Census West Cocalico, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, District 11 records Harry S. (48) and Ida (41) Baker with children Paul (20), Mabel (17), Emory (9), and Ellen (6). Harry and Ida have been married for 26 years having had 7 children all still living. Harry is a Public School Teacher. Also in the household is Harry's widowed mother in law, Sarah White (79).
The 1900 Federal Census West Cocalico, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, District 115 records Harry S. (Mar 1862) and Ida W. (May 1868) Baker with children Daisey W. (April 1885), Loyd W. (Jan 1887), Harry W. (July 1888), Paul W. (Nov 1889), Mabel W. (Sept 1892), and Emory W. (Jan 1900). Harry and Ida are farming and have been married for 15 years having had 6 children. Also in the household are In-Laws Amos (July 1824) and Sarah (May 1831) White who have been married for 41 years and have had 2 children of whom 1 is still living.
The 1880 Census West Cocalico, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, District 107 page 78B records Ida White (13) living with her parents, Amos (55 - PA/NJ/PA) and Sarah (48 - PA/PA/PA) White in West Cocalico. Amos is a Shoemaker. Also ... The 1880 Census West Cocalico, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, District 107 page 81A records a Harry Becker (18 - PA/PA/PA) (just 5 pages over from Ida White listed above) as a nephew living with Martin (47 - PA/PA/PA) and Hannah (46 - PA/PA/PA) Becker. Also in the household is the son of Martin and Hannah, Edwin Becker (18), as well as their niece, Lizzie Brunner (22). Nearby are Ezra (42) and Carolina (36) Becker with their children and next to them is Sallie Becker (69) [Sallie is Ezra's mother and Ezra is Martin's cousin].
The 1870 Census West Cocalico, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, page 394B records a Harry (indexed as Henry) Becker (8 - PA) living with retired farmer John Becker (72 - PA) and his wife Elizabeth (68 - PA) Becker). John has real estate valued at $4,500 and a personal estate at $450. Next door (page 394A) is Martin (37 - PA) and Hannah (37 - PA) Becker with son Edwin Becker (8). Also in that household is Jefferson Usner (15) as well as Lizzie Brunner (14). Martin is a farmer with real estate valued at $8,000 and a personal estate at $2,500. Nearby (page 411A) are Ezra (33) and Carolina (28) Becker with their children and next to them is Sarah Becker (59) [Ezra's mother and Samuel's wife]. Ezra is a farmer with real estate valued at $18,000 and a personal estate at $2,600.
Going back to 1860 one can find documents that indicate Martin and Ezra Becker as cousins, not brothers: Martin (25) is the son of John (62) and Elizabeth (58) Becker and has a brother, Jacob (19). Ezra is the son of Samuel (66) and Sally (50) Becker ... of Cocalico, Lancaster Co., PA. Samuel has real estate valued at $6,800 and a personal estate at $4,905 while John has real estate valued at $11,250 and a personal estate at $1,200: The 1860 Census West Cocalico, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Reinholdsville P. O., page 903A, dated June 11, 1860 records Martin Becker (25 - PA) living with his parents John (62 - PA) and Elizabeth (58 - PA) Becker and brother Jacob Becker (19 - PA). John is a farmer with real estate valued at $11,250 and a personal estate at $1,200. Next door is John's brother Samuel Becker (66 - PA) with his wife Sally (50 - PA) and their son Ezra Becker (22 - PA). Samuel is a farmer with real estate valued at $8,600 and a personal estate at $4,905. Thus, Martin and Ezra are cousins ... and Jacob Becker is the brother to Martin. This relationship along with census records above tie Harry (Henry) Becker, possible son of Margaret Pearson Baker, to this family. The divorce record below seems to confirm this relationship ... This researcher requested a Pennsylvania death certificate for Harry Baker covering 1930-1940 but none was found, however, later research found Harry's death certificate ... see medical notes for Harry S. Baker. Then on March 24, 2009 Brian L. Klinger, Office of Records and Archives Services for Lancaster County responded to a request by this researcher with the following: As for divorce records, we do have a "divorce index", beginning in 1850. There are no Henry Baker/Becker divorces listed. There is an 1860 divorce between a Samuel W. Becker and a Mary Ann Becker, but that would hardly allow time, even if it was the correct one, for her to bear two children. And there is an 1869 divorce between a Jacob E. Baker and a Maggie A. Baker (#44 January 1869). But we don't have any accompanying paperwork for these cases (our civil documents don't begin until 1873).
The 1850 census further documents these families: The 1850 Census West Cocalico, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, page 362A/B, dated August 28, 1850 records Martin Becker (17 - PA) living with his parents John (52 - PA) and Elizabeth (49 - PA) Becker and brothers Henry Becker (19) and Jacob Becker (9 - PA). John is a farmer with real estate valued at $5,000. Near by is John's brother Samuel Becker (56 - PA) with his wife Sarah (39 - PA) and their son Ezra Becker (12 - PA). Samuel is a farmer with real estate valued at $5,000.

The 1900 Federal Census for Cumru, Berks Co., PA, District 14, page 212B, dated June 23, 1900 records Jacob E.
