Woodrow W. Palmore contacted me by phone from Florida on March 29, 2006. He confirmed the previous research included here below. He stated that Edwin W. Hagen (I) was a "fine old gentleman", a very nice man. He lived with his grand daughter, Mary Hagen Palmore. Mary's mother, Pearl, lived there as well. He said that his father had been postmaster at Drewrys Bluff but then Mary took over the job. Her mother became Assistant Postmistress.

In researching possible husband of Mary Hagen ... finding a brother, Woodrow Palmore:

The death certificate for Edwin W. Hagen records Mrs. B. W. Palmore as the informant. Thus, Mary's husband must have initials B. W. and the most likely B. W. Palmore I can find is Bennett W. Palmore, son of Marvin A. and Maggie E. Palmore of Bermuda District, Chesterfield County, Virginia. The 1920 Federal Census, Virginia, Chesterfield Co., Bermuda, ED#5, page 64A records Marvin A. (42) and Mazie E. (35) Palmore with children Marvel E. (15), Bennett W. (14), Virginia C. (12), Marvin A. Jr. (10), and Francis W. (2 5/12). This family is just one page from Mary Hagen and family.

The SSDI records Bennett W. Palmore, born July 26, 1905, died March 11, 1991 in Richmond, Chesterfield, Virginia.

WWI Draft Registration Cards: Marvin Atwell Palmore born Aug 10, 1877 living at Drewrys Bluff - wife is Mazie / Working for the Atlantic Coastline Railroad.
Marvin is the son of Bennett W. and Caledonia Palmore of Cumberland Co., VA.

For reference:
1910 United States Federal Census for North Carolina, Northampton Co., Pleasant Hill Twp, District 82 records Marvin A. (31-VA/VA/VA) and Mazie (26-VA/England/England) Palmore with children Marvel (6-VA), Bennett (4-VA), Virginia (2-VA), and Marvin Jr. (0/12-VA). Marvin is an agent for the railroad. They have been married 8 years.
