General Notes:
The Johann Adam Keil Family immigration record from www.ancestry.com - Baltimore, Passenger and Immigration Lists, 1820-1872: Arrival in the Port of Baltimore on Oct 18, 1851 - List or Manifest of the 145 passengers on the Bark [Barque] Orion from Bremen - Ship's Master: Frederich Schwartze Adam Keill, 27, Sachsen Anna Keill, 28, Sachsen Dorothea Keill, 3, Sachsen Elisabeth Keill, 9 months, Sachsen with the intention of living in Baltimore. Note: First 2 pages of Manifest are indexed under the ship Hahnemann which arrived in Baltimore in October 1851.
The 1870 Federal Census for Spring Township, Perry Co., Pennsylvania, New Bloomfield P. O., page 267B, dated Sept 12, 1870 records Somebody (sic) (45 - PA) and Rachel (40 - PA) Keil with son David (16 - PA) and daughter Margart (sic) (10 - PA). This is our John Adam Keil ... see notes below on 1880 census records.
The 1880 Census for Spring Township, Perry Co., PA, District 126, page 201A, dated June 22, 1880 records Adam (56 - Saxony/Saxony/Saxony) and Annie E. (57 - Saxony/Saxony/Saxony) Kile [Keil] continuing to live and farm in the same relative location for "Somebody and Rachel" from 1870 in Perry Co. (see above). In spite of the difference in the given names from 1870 to 1880, this is the same family, confirmed by the Keil family having the same neighbors in both the 1870 and 1880 census records (Richard and Abigail Adams is one such family, Levi and Martha Shearer is another). Adam Kile is listed as a farmer and both he and Annie are recorded born in Saxony. In researching where Adam, Anna, and family were living in 1860, it is of interest that Levi and Martha Shearer and family are recorded in the 1860 Federal Census for Freedom Township, Blair Co., Pa. page 187A: Levi (28) and Martha (20) Shearer with children Joseph (4) and Albert (4/12); 1870 for Spring Township, Perry Co., PA - Levi (39), Martha J. (29), Albert (14), Rebecca (6), Iola R. (5), Annie (3), and Harry (2)); 1880 for Spring Township, Perry Co., PA - Levi (48), Martha J. (41), Joseph (23), Alfred (18), Rebecca (14), Ida (13), Annie (12), David (10), Emanuel (11), Sarah E. (6), and Levi (3). Perhaps the Keils and Shearers were in Blair Co. together, however, to date I have not found any records of the Keils in 1860 (May 11, 2009).
The Perry County Historians found a burial record for both Adam and Anna Keil. They are buried in the Young's United Methodist Church Yard in Cumberland/Perry Co., PA near Shermans Dale just off Route 34 as you cross into Perry Co., leaving Carlisle.
