bullet  General Notes:

Our Keil family name is listed in various sources as Kyle, Kile, Keil as well as many other ways. David, Missouri, and Sarah are all listed as Keil on death certificates as well as their Mechanicsburg Cemetery headstones. Sometime around WWI, members of the family began spelling their name "Kile". This may have been a reaction to German sentiments from WWI. Around 1942, E. Frederick Kile, born 1928, grandson of David and Missouri, found his birth certificate was Keil even though he had always known himself as Kile. Fred subsequently had his name legally changed to Kile.

See general notes on his father, Johann Adam Keil, for 1870 census facts.

The 1880 Federal Census in Urbana, Champaigne Co., Ohio, Dist 31, page 436 B, dated June 17, 1880 records David (25 - PA/PA/Germany) and Missouri (20 - Ohio/PA/PA) Kyle [Keil] with their daughter Sarah A. (2 - PA) living on Russell Street in Urbana, Ohio very near Missouri's parents, Samuel and Sarah Creamer. Interesting to note that Missouri is days away from giving birth to their son John William Keil, on June 25, 1880. David is listed as employed as a Laborer. The family will soon move back to Pennsylvania where their next child is born. Missouri's father and several siblings soon Ohio behind and move to Nebraska.

20th Century census records list the David A. Keil family home as 101 North York Street in Mechanicsburg, PA in 1900; 22 East Green Street in Mechanicsburg, PA in 1910; 44 West Allen Street in 1920; and 21 East Locust Street in Mechanicsburg, PA in 1930.

The 1900 Federal Census for Mechanicsburg, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania, ED# 17, page 12B, dated June 13, 1900 records David (44 - Aug 1855 / PA/PA/PA) and Missouri (40 - March 1860 / Ohio/PA/PA) (indexed as Masouria at ancestry.com) Keil with children Sarah A. (22 - Nov 1877 / PA), John W. (19 - June 1880 / Ohio), Annie E. (17 - Oct 1882 / PA), Ocyola (15 - April 1885 / PA), Lucy (12 - Oct 1887 / PA), Ester B. (7 - June 1892 / PA), and Alta G. (3 - Aug 1896 / PA). David and Missouri have been married 23 years with 7 children of which 7 are alive and are living at 101(?) North York Street. Next door is Elizabeth [Stahl] and Peirce Rice. Elizabeth is the sister of John Stahl. This neighborhood relationship is most likely how John Stahl meets and marries Sarah Keil and fathers Evelyn Stahl.

The 1910 Federal Census for Mechanicsburg, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania, ED# 24, page 26A, dated April 18, 1910 records David A. (54 - PA/Germany/Germany) and Missouri (50 - Ohio/PA/PA) Kile [Keil] with children Ester V. (17 - PA) and Alta G. (13 - PA) and daughter Sarah A. Stahl (32 - PA) and granddaughter Evlin M.
