James Marshall Sharp
General Notes: James Marshall Sharp fought for the Confedarate States of America in the Civil War. He enlisted in Company F, 45th North Carolina Infantry on Sept 1, 1862 at the age of 22. On July 1, 1863 he was wounded at Gettysburg but recovered and rejoined his unit by Nov. 30, 1863. He was wounded again and captured at the Battle of Spottslyvania Court House. He returned to duty but was captured March 25, 1865 at Petersburg. He was confined to Point Lookout Prison, Maryland where he spent the remainder of the war. He took the Oath of Allegiance on June 20, 1865 at Point Lookout, MD. James married Elizabeth (Eliza) Merritt Garrett, daughter of Jarrett Bolyn (Bouldin/Bolden) Garrett and Clarissa Walton Hill, on 20 Nov 1866 in Rockingham Co, NC. (Elizabeth (Eliza) Merritt Garrett was born on 13 Aug 1845 at Old J. B. Garrett Farm Near Madison, N.C, died on 22 Aug 1938 in Madison, Rockingham Co, NC and was buried on 24 Aug 1938 in Sardis Church, Madison, NC.) The cause of her death was Senility.
