HAZEL D. MILES
Hazel Doughtie Miles, 76, of Box 5261 Holiday Island, died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 3, 1996, in Chowan Hospital.
A native of Holland, Va., she was the daughter of the late Luther Carroll Doughtie Sr. and Lucy Winborne Doughtie. She retired after 17 years in the quality-control department of Lipton Tea Co. and was a member of Chapel on the Sound.
Survivors include her husband, Ruben W. Miles; a daughter, Rita M. Jeffress of Holiday Island; two sons, Carroll L. Miles of Chesapeake, Terry L. Miles of Greenville, N.C.; three sisters, Louise Cutchin of Holland, Allie Lee of Emporia, Va., and Garlon Brinkley of Norfolk; two brothers, Luther C. Doughtie Jr. of Holland, Harry G. Doughtie of Hertford, Conn.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Danny W. Miles.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Swindell Funeral Home. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Chapel, Suffolk. Donations may be made in her name to the Building Fund at Chapel on the Sound, Box 5200 Holiday Island, Hertford, N.C. 27944.
