The City of Reading, Pennsylvania Death Records list Mrs. Sarah E. Hagen, Death Date: March 2, 1889, File Number: 218. The Reading Death Record (Orphan's Court of Berks County) indicates Sarah E. Hagen died of "Phthisis pulmonalis" [tuberculosis of the lungs] and was buried on March 3, 1889 in Aulenbach Cemetery in Reading. At the time of her death she was living at her home at 849 Muhlenberg Street.
From the Tuesday March 5, 1889 Reading Eagle: DIED HAGEN - In this city on the 2d inst., Sarah E., wife of Joshua Hagen, aged 50 years, 9 months and 18 days. The relatives and friends of the family, are respectfully invited to attend her funeral on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from her late residence, 849 Muhlenberg street. Services at the house. Interment at Aulenbach's cemetery.

John is employed as a Puddler.
The 1860 Federal Census for Reading, Spruce Ward, Berks Co., PA, page 972A, dated July 12, 1860 records John (55 - PA) and Fanny (53 - PA) Reese with children Joseph (16 - PA) and Anna M. (11 - PA). John is employed as a Hatter. Living in the same house is Joshua Hagen with his bride Sarah Reese Hagen and their children John and George.
The 1870 Federal Census for Reading, Ward 2, Berks Co., PA, page 972A, dated July 12, 1860 records John (66 - PA) and Fanny (64 - PA) Reese living in the home of John (40 - Bavaria) and Mary (39 - PA) Flech and their children John Flech (9), Joseph Flech (3) and Fanny Flech (1). Mary Flech is probably John and Fannie's daughter.
The 1880 Federal Census for Reading, Berks Co., PA, page 400A, dated June 10, 1880 records John (76 - PA/PA/PA) and Fannie (73 - PA/PA/PA) Reese. Also in the household is their widowed daughter, Annie Gentzle (30) and her daughter, Kate Gentzle (10).
The 1900 Federal Census for Reading, Ward 10, Berks Co., PA, page 11A, dated June 8, 1900 records a widowed Annie Gensel (Dec 1848 - PA/PA/PA) and her daughter, Catherine G. Gensel (Jan 1870 - PA) living at 1052 Spruce Street. Both Annie and Catherine are employed in Hat Trimming.
