A December 15, 2008 phone call from Marty Olson [Donna Olson / 570-654-4815] related questions about his Hagen ancestry as found on the web site of this researcher, hagen.familyfiles.info. He indicates that his great grand mother was Katherine G. Hagen who was married to Edward Wright in Reading. Katie and Edward had a daughter, Irene Victoria Wright, whose son, Bernie Olson, is Marty's father. Marty indicates Irene Victoria Wright was married to an Olson and had a daughter, Irene Olson, who married John O'Hearn.


The 1900 Federal Census for Reading, Ward 10, Berks Co., PA, District 78, page 259B dated June 6, 1900 records Edward (July 1868 - PA/PA/PA) and Katie (Sept 1878 - PA/PA/PA) Right (sic) with children Edward Right (June 1895) and Oray Right (Sept 1892). Edward and Kate have been married for 8 years and have had 2 children.

The 1910 Federal Census for Reading, Ward 10, Berks Co., PA, District 77, page 145B dated April 20, 1910 records Edward B. (42) and Katie G. (32) Wright with children Irene V. (16), Edward B. (13), Clarence M. (8), and Forest S. (1 11/12) living at 556 Wunder Street. Edward and Katie have been married for 18 years and have had 5 children of whom 4 are still living. Edward is a Printer for a Printing Office.

The 1920 Federal Census for Reading, Ward 3, Berks Co., PA, District 60, page 152B dated January 9, 1920 records Edward (53) and Catharine (41) Wright with their son Edward W. Wright (23) and his wife Sara Wright (21) and their daughter Anna Wright (1 10/12) renting a home at 22 Orange Street. Also in the household is Edward and Catharine's son Clarence Wright (19). Edward is a Printer for the Newspaper, Catharine is a Cigar Maker in a Cigar Factory, Edward W. is a Draftsman for the Ironworks, and Clarence is a Printer for the Newspaper.

The 1930 Federal Census for Reading, Ward 3, Berks Co., PA, District 10, page 152B dated April 8, 1930 records E. B. (62) and Katie (53) Wright with their grandchildren Anna Wright (12) and Sara Jane Wright (9) renting a home at 22 Orange Street. E. B. reports having been first married at age 27 while Katie reports her first marriage was at age 16. E. B. is employed as a Printer at the Paper.

The 1940 Federal Census for Reading, Ward 3, Berks Co., PA, District 70-13, page 172B dated April 10, 1940 records Edward B. (72) and Catherine (63) Wright with their grandchildren Anna E. Wright (122) and Sara Jane Wright (19) renting a home at 911 Cherry Street. Edward is employed as a Printer at the Newspaper earning $2,200 working 47 weeks during the last year. Edward has completed 4 years of high school while Catherine has completed just 3 years of schooling.

Obituary for Mrs. Katherine Wright
Mrs. Katherine G. (Hagan) Wright, 88, formerly of 1048 Cherry St., died yesterday in Berks Heim [Nursing and Rehabilitation].
Born in Reading, she was the widow of Edward B. Wright Sr., who died June 8, 1947.
Mrs. Wright was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church.
She is survived by a son, Clarence M., of Reading; four grand children and two great grand children.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Doughterty Funeral Home, the Rev. Samuel L. Koons officiating. Burial will follow in Laureldale Cemetery.

Katherine married Edward Brunner Wright Sr., son of James Mifflen Wright and Louisa Hudson, on 28 Jan 1893 in Camden City, Camden Co., New Jersey. (Edward Brunner Wright Sr. was born on 5 Jul 1867 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, died on 8 Jun 1947 in Reading, Berks Co., PA and was buried on 12 Jun 1947 in Laureldale Cemetery, Berks Co., PA.) The cause of his death was Cerebral Apoplexy.
