The 1880 Federal Census, Virginia, Henry Co., Leatherwood District, District 129, page 78A records John R. Lawrence (40) with wife Lucy M. (38) and children Henry (18), John R. (16), Samuel G. (14), Meredith A. (13), William P. (11), Coleman D. (9), Rainey E. (7), and B. Frank (5).

In an email, Nov 17, 2004 from Desmond Kendrick, Archivist, Henry County, Virginia : " John R. (Randolph) Lawrence is a brother to Samuel Ervin Lawrence. John R. Lawrence's family is for whom the Lawrence drive is named. One of his great grandsons owns considerable acreage on that road.

"By the way, Green Berry Adkins was a first cousin to my grandfather. Imagine that, a first cousin! Green Berry's father was Jackson Adkins. Uncle Jackson (1812 - 1862) was a half brother to my greatgrandmother! I could also show you where he is buried and lived (at Callands)."

John married Lucy M. Gilbert. (Lucy M. Gilbert was born about 1842 and died after 1880 in Henry Co., VA..)
